Actually, it is enough to know only one language (official language of the canton where job is offered).
Maybe one is enough to work in a shop, but in universal case for a work, for example, in Bern I guess you need to know German, English and desirably French or Italian. If I'm wrong then we're a bit further from Western Europe than I thought :).
